Does Your Vehicle Need New Tires? Follow These Tips

Posted on

Are the tires on your vehicle worn down to the point where they need to be replaced? If so, follow these tips that will help you buy new tires.

Know That Tires Have Various Qualities

Tires are one part of your vehicle where you get what you pay for. While they all may seem the same, it's important to pay attention to the various attributes that make up each tire and why it cost more than another tire. You may be paying more for additional tread so that it lasts longer, a tire that is quiet on the road, or even a tire with stiffer sidewalls that let you drive on it when it's flat. If you buy the cheapest tire available, you may be paying for it later.

Consider Your Driving Conditions

It's very important to consider the road conditions that you drive on when selecting a tire. If you are in a part of the country that gets rain and snow, you'll likely want a tire that is going to perform well in these conditions. If you live in a warmer part of the country that results in driving on flat and dry surfaces, you'll need a different type of tire with different treads.

Look at the Mileage Estimate

Different tires are rated for a different total mileage, which is one way that makes one tire stand out from another. Know that this is not just an estimate of how long they will last, but is usually based on the tread depth of the tire. A tire rated for more miles is going to have thicker tread depth. You may pay more upfront for the tire that is rated for more miles, but you'll save money by not having premature tire replacement.

Always Get New Tires Balanced

Most tire shops will include balancing with any installation, while some charge extra for it. Tire balancing is always something that you want to have done. Small weights are put around the rip of the tire that helps even out the weight, which reduces the vibrations and noise that come from the tires while they're spinning. If you skip out on balancing your tires, you may regret it soon after you start driving with them.

These are some of the basics that you need to know when shopping for new tires. Reach out to a tire shop in your area for their assistance.
